Bayly Plans Greeley Jeans Plant Expansion and Training

Bayly Manufacturing opens a Greeley Colorado plant on Eighth Avenue to Eleventh Street, hiring 50 to 60 workers mainly women. It will produce boys jeans for J C Penney, aiming 106 dozen daily at full speed next summer, using blue denim from several mills. First fabric from Erwin Mills, North Carolina, with initial output sent to Denver for distribution, then potentially to Penney and other Bayly customers. Payroll about 2500 weekly as staff nears 69, with training starting December 7 and growth at four to five women weekly. State employment office handles hires. plant will cut its own material and house many sewing machines. Bayly operates additional plants in California, Oregon, and Washington. total employees around 1,100.

Two Castle Rock Fatality From Rear End Collision

Skidding Cars Cause 3 Wrecks on Icy City Streets

Three car crashes occurred Friday afternoon as drivers lost control on icy streets. Margaret E. Maddox in a 1951 Oldsmobile collided with Edna Schroeder’s 1952 Chevrolet after Maddox braked for a police car at Fifteenth and Thirteenth avenues, damages totaling 3500. Schroeder and Maddox were cited for careless driving. A second crash on Sixteenth street involved Doris G. Ferguson’s 1919 Buick and Melvin Hendry Ferguson’s 1950 Ford, causing 174 damage and leading to a careless driving citation for Melvin Ferguson. A third collision at Twenty-first avenue and Seventeenth street between Wayne S. Brown’s 1953 Ford and Eunice Fine’s 1947 Dodge caused $875 in damages. both drivers were charged with careless driving.
