Denver Firm Low Bidder On New City Reservoir
A Denver firm submitted the lowest bid of 577,000 for a 15,400,000 gallon reservoir to serve the city. Hugh Sloan Dies While Driving Car
Hugh M Sloan 58 a Keenesburg trader and business man died of a heart attack Thursday morning while driving east of Keenesburg. His car ran off the road. the mirror ran but gear was out when found. Sloan was an investigator for the Colorado Motor Vehicle Division and a member of the State Democratic Central Committee. He came to Weld County in 1915 with his parents and attended Prospect Valley Centralized School. He married Mary C Dick June 14 1981 at Roggen. He farmed in Adams and Weld Counties until 1884 when he formed a partnership with cousin Donald J Sloan in Keene Power Equipment Co. During WWII he was an officer in the CAP. He was mayor of Keenesburg and a candidate for the State House in the 39th General Assembly. also a candidate for county Commissioner. Organizer of Keenesburg Chamber of Commerce, former president of Weld County Democratic Club, member of south Platte Steering Committee, executive president of Henry Lynn Irrigation District, and member of the Leyley Grove Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife Mary, son Brice of Keenesburg, brother Phil of Adams City, and sisters Mrs A E Gustafson of Denver, Mrs Carl Gilbert of Brighton, and Mrs Dorothy Howton of Keenesburg. Rosary Sunday 6 pm at Rice Funeral Chapel, Brighton. Funeral Monday 3 pm at Rice Funeral Chapel with Elmwood Burial Park, Brighton. Memorials to Keenesburg American Legion Musicians Fund welcomed.
