Seven U S fliers died when a transport helicopter crashed near Saigon in South Vietnam. Rescue teams battled wreckage through the night as fire and ground fire were ruled out, leaving little salvageable debris.
Search efforts in western Colorado focused on the State Bridge area for two missing light planes. The first plane vanished Wednesday during a radio report and carried seven aboard, including pilot Stanley Greenblatt and his wife. A second, two-engine Mohawk recon plane remains missing with a US and Vietnamese crew aboard. Air and ground teams, aided by helicopters, search the mountains and surrounding regions as military air operations intensify in South Vietnam.

Kenyon’s car collided with another vehicle before the mall on the highway. Anderson’s car reportedly spun and struck a building pole, with Anderson inside.
Colorado Patrol reports a cattle truck collided with a school bus near Smith and Chambers in Aurora. AWstappsi of direcley was hospitalized with a shoulder injury. another person remains in gon condition. The bus halted at a stop sign and pulled into the truck’s path, injuring Smith and forcing evasive maneuvers to avoid impact.
Postmortem reports show carbon monoxide poisoning caused the deaths of three children stranded in a car halted by a snowdrift southwest of Grand Junction. Parents were hospitalized in guarded condition. Sheriff identified victims as Rare Barbara, Donald, and Donald Jr. The incident followed a highway maintenance delay Friday leaving the vehicle stuck.
The latest readings show extreme cold across the region with Fraser Colorado reporting 47 below, Laramie Wyoming at 50 below, and Eagle Colorado at 1 below. Yellowstone Montana logged the coldest in the nation at 56 below zero, while Cheyenne Wyoming posted 21 below and Denver tied as a record low for January 2 reaching 0 or near. Highs across the area stayed well below freezing with sparse highways and packed conditions in the mountains. frigid winds and overnight lows dominated reports from Colorado and Wyoming.
