County officers will take seats as preparatory work continues for the installation next Tuesday. Judge Bradford begins a two year term, Luther moves up, and few new faces appear. Deputies remain, and most regular officials keep their posts.
Mrs. Cumming Campbell returns home after visiting daughter Mrs Pay Blandin while Mrs Barr Crabb travels to visit sister Mrs A L Palmer. Bradshaw of Routt county lies near death from cancer prompting family to plan bedside vigil despite impassable mountain roads and 90 miles to the railhead. McCormick's Lake reports ten inch ice as work begins, and Miss Mabel Larson and sister head to Denver after homestead near Bridgeport Nebraska.
The wedding of Blanche Niemeyer Wortham is in doubt as the bride’s friends, who prepared a linen and china shower, wonder if the ceremony set for late week will proceed. Mr and Mrs Wortham leave for a month in San Antonio after the ceremony, then return to Denver.
G Misa Anna Down of Hopkins Missouri and Harry Chambers of Loveland were married last evening in the Oxford hotel parlor by Rev. R F Coyle of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr Chambers is a Loveland barber and they will make their home there.
The James J Corbett company stopped for dinner at Camfield and traveled from Cheyenne toward Fort Collins. They will rest on the evening train, are booked at Fort Collins tonight, and plan to be in Denver next week.
A prominent Burlington and Colorado & Southern delegation arrived in Kansas City from New York and will reach Greeley on January 16. The inspection will cover the entire system with plans for extensions and improvements likely discussed during a dinner in Greeley on January 16.
Bootlegger Hill was fined 200 dollars yesterday for peddling liquor. After serving a prior 50 dollar city fine, the state imposed three months more in jail. Arrests followed weeks earlier as city authorities cracked down on bootleggers. He is expected to reform after this strenuous treatment.
Dora Fleming daughter of Mr and Mrs W F Fleming and Fred Campbell were secretly married this afternoon by Rev B Payne at the clergyman's home in Eaton The bride is described as pretty and popular and the groom as a prosperous young farmer They will reside on the groom's ranch east of Baton Surprise wedding kept date secret from the bride's family
The two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Hub Nix was moved to Denver this morning under the care of nurse Misa Etta Luther who has tended the child. Doctors have not diagnosed the illness and the child’s condition was critical prompting the hospital run. The Nix family resides on the George Montgomery place southwest of town.
A. W. McQuowan suffered a dislocated shoulder with sprains and bruises after a fall on his doorstep. He can move about town but has had to stay off work as a teameter until healing improves.
Secretary Fitch of the Weld County Farmers club reports Dr. Sawyer will speak at the Institute next Friday and Saturday on producing denatured alcohol from potatoes. He will cover plant costs yields and values, noting waste spuds offer greater profits than other products. Participants from ten states will attend including Maine New York Wisconsin Michigan Illinois Iowa Colorado Idaho California and Oregon.
Mrs. Montgomery has returned to Platteville after visiting her daughter Mrs. F. Martin. Mrs. J. J. Newell came back from Kansas to visit relatives. The M W A met in Allison hall for the first time, having outgrown Randolph hall. Officer installations were postponed to the third Tuesday in January. Nettie Collinge and Gladys Lowry, both born January 5, hosted a birthday party for forty friends at Nettie’s home with decor, games, music, and refreshments.
The Colorado Whist League will hold its third annual tournament at the Greeley club rooms on January 22 and 23. State clubs from across Colorado will compete for the championship with two open pairs events on Saturday at 10 am and 7 30 pm. Entry is 50 per pair to fund prize buttons for the eight winners. Lunch will be served. all whist players are invited.
Special to the Daily Tribune from Messina reports shocks at ten per hour continue. Fires break out anew and city hall lies in ruins with many records lost. Soldiers blast ruins with dynamite as rescue teams pull 2,300 survivors from the wreckage and bury the dead with quicklime.
The County Visitors board met Tuesday for its monthly session to review annual records. The county jail housed 270 inmates with poor conditions and no inmate employment. city jail held 140 inmates in fine condition. county hospital had 99 men and 27 women fed, with 19 beds and two wards. city hospital reported 288 patients and good facilities. 30 juvenile delinquents were reported, 12 brought to the board.
Archie Parmalee died Wednesday evening January 6 1909 in Colorado aged twenty from tuberculosis. He came from Essex Connecticut two years ago seeking a healing climate, joined by cousin James Parmalee in February, they moved to Greeley ten days ago. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs E R Parmalee two sisters and a brother living in Essex. Funeral arrangements pending word from relatives and body expected to be taken east for burial with the cousin.
The Eastern Stars held a Tuesday night installation with a large attendance and refreshments afterward. The Congregational church society met the same evening with reports read and a noted annual supper. Mrs. Copple returned from Denver to a jaundiced three year old, Rockwood. The Sommervilles and Mrs. Ward visited Denver briefly. The Sunday school leaders received Christmas chairs as gifts. Eaton youths attended a party in Ault hosted by Miss Collins and Miss Lowry.
A 200 foot deep soft water well is being sunk at the LaSalle section house by Union Pacific personnel. C B Scanlon oversees the work. A serenade honored R B Carpenter and his bride by the LaSalle band Monday evening. Carpenter also received a buggy ride and later paid for the merrymakers' treats.
