Reports from Hendaye indicate Franco's insurgent drive in southern Pyrenees front from Tremp to Belaguer was checked by loyalist forces. Denver Dec 24 A string of fatal vehicle crashes in Colorado left four dead and several injured. Emma McClell, 32, of Burlington, Iowa, died after being struck by a car while crossing a Burlington street. Benjamin Mickelson, 83, of Castle Rock, was killed when his car crashed head-on with a coal truck driven by Viggo Smith of Woodrow near Roggen in Weld county. Delora Cummings, 17, of Aurora, riding with Ebert Bade, 31, of Champa Street, died in a collision with a gasoline truck at Montylew Boulevard and Ulster Street in Denver. Harry E. Bower, 82, of Welton Street, died when the truck he drove collided with a Colorado and Southern freighter, and Rey F. Berrian, 48, of Morrison, was fatally injured in another collision. The 25th traffic fatality in Weld county this year is noted by coroners and police.
A Greeley Transportation bus crashed into a tree at Ninth Avenue and Twelfth Street injuring none of the two passengers while driver Carl ton faced a charge of driving without a chauffeur license. The incident prompted officials to review all bus drivers licenses and other drivers at the company.
Denver broker Howard Hundeby dies in a Denver hospital from complications after a hunting accident near Deertrail. His shotgun discharged as he climbed a fence, injuring his foot and leading to amputation below the knee. Survived by his widow Hazel Handaby.
Berlin reports that a propaganda ministry spokesman said the Icken incident was closed diplomatically after the United States rejected a German protest. The spokesman noted Sumner Welles’s remark left a sting, but no further action is planned. He contrasted Nazi claims with Christian spirit and criticized Allied policy, while Key Pittman’s four point statement drew an angry response from Berlin.
Charles Mast asks for divorce from Charles F. Mast in county court alleging cruelty as the cause. The couple live in Greeley and were married in 1928 with no children.
Mrs Ethel M Gooch wife of Earl Gooch of Loveland died of a heart attack in Fort Collins. She planned to visit her mother Mrs Isabel Briggs of Greeley. Survived by her husband two children her mother a brother and a sister. Funeral details not announced.
A. J. Bradbury, longtime Greeley resident, has purchased the Elite Barbershop at 819 Highsh avenue. He has been in partnership with Frank Dammell and this week bought out Mr. Vamrell's interest.
Two unidentified teens held up Herb Dennis, proprietor of The Virginia Inn At Platteville at 12 48 AM Saturday, taking $25 from the till while a pistol pointed at him. They fled toward Greeley in a car, aided by two others. Dennis reported $150 more in the register had been removed earlier. Sheriff investigators were assigned to the case.
An eight B 17 bomber exploded and crashed two miles southeast of Hamilton Field California Friday night. Seven to nine men were killed with eight remaining aboard. Major Warren Maxwell of Maxwell Field Montgomery Alabama was among those aboard and listed as casualty. Recovery teams found the wreckage and luggage, while witnesses recalled a tremendous blast as rain complicated the scene. Authorities at March Field California and other bases are reviewing the flight path from Henley Field to Shreveport and Mitchell Field.

Postmaster John Hedman told the Tribune that Christmas packages and other Christman mail had been delivered rapidly as it arrived. He noted the mail before Christmas would be delivered, and nothing could hinder the service. Post office employees began their annual trust on the postmaster at 1 a.m. Saturday. Hackett & Walters donated the pastry goods this year.
