Japanese bombers struck Cavite and Manila as heavy air raids and coastal landings continued in Luzon and nearby areas. Reports say U S forces suffered losses while Japanese units pressed a fresh offensive in the Philippines with heavy air support and new beachhead activity.
Charles Weal a 44 year old of 1440 Seventh Street Geceley learned Thursday evening that his bicycle was left at Just wuyano's house. He planned to ride downtown but walked with a friend after a confusing sequence. Police impounded the bicycle and released it after explanations.
Premier Salazar told the national assembly Portugal would study cooperation with Britain and the Dutch under British staff in case of a Japanese attack on Timor. He said there was no reason to think Japan would attack, and noted Australian and Dutch forces occupied Timor to deter aggression. Preparations to reinforce Timor were made during the occupation, with details to be disclosed later. The death toll from the December 3 collision near Firestone, Weld County, rose to three. William Springsteen, 56, died yesterday in a Longmont hospital. His granddaughters Jenn Springsteen, 8, and Emily Springsteen, 9, were fatally injured. Emily died en route, Jenn died later. A pickup and a Union Pacific train collided at a grade crossing. Coroner George Hous will decide if an inquest is needed.
Washington reports rapid passage of a 20 through 44 age rule for compulsory military training. The measure requires registration of men 18 to 64 and assigns ages 20 to 44 for active service eligibility, with the house approving a conference report not initially favored by the house. Arnold Eugene Lyon a 24 year old Greeley high school graduate was killed serving in the Navy in California. He was a gunner's mate third class and had been away from the west coast since January. He is survived by his wife a daughter and his parents Mrs Sarah Lyon of Glendale and Will Lyon of Denver. A brother Howard serves in the Navy and the family has roots in Greeley and Los Angeles.
College registrar Roy M. Carsol announced that students who attended CSC during the quarter of 1941 with arrangements to call for their record books must appear at the registrar's office Friday December 39 from 1:30 to 4:00.
