Gas discovery flowing 34 million cubic feet daily on land now held by Bijou Land and Irrigation Co a Greeley owned outfit with offices in Coronado Bend area. Land spans from Weld Morgan county line to Fort Morgan about 300 plus acres plus. Locally the Bijou 1B well in 15-653 near NWNE and the Oliver test at Bolin north of Greasewood indicate drilling depths around 7500 to 8000 feet with tests by Tennessee Gas Transmission and Shannon Oil Co in Weld and Morgan counties.

Arnold Speaker 29, a Briggsdale native, was one of two men killed in a highway accident 42 miles south of Durango Colorado on U S 85. His brother James Speaker drove the car and survived. passenger Richard Stefan 21 died. Arnold and James worked on an oil drilling rig at Farmington NM. The crash involved a truck aiding a stranded motorist. the car swerved, struck the truck, and crashed through a fence into a field. Arnold’s widow Ruth Blanley and two sons survive, along with his mother and siblings James Dan Sara Paul Ela Viola. Funeral plans were not set.
