Rising Denied New Trial Sentenced to Life in Colorado
Walter Rising was denied a new trial by Judge Garrigues and then sentenced to life in the state penitentiary at Canon City. The murder occurred last September when he shot Jerome McGahen in ambush beside an old well, killing McGahen and Ida Mae Todd, an eleven year old blind girl. Rising surrendered to Sheriff Flore once in Greeley, his defense citing insanity. His wife and family remained at his side through the proceedings, with attorney Delph E. Carpenter planning an appeal.

Catholic Fair to Begin on Tuesday in Weld County
The Catholic church in Camfield hall schedules an eleven day fair starting next Tuesday to raise funds for a building. Preparations are complete with booths run by the church’s prettiest girls, nightly music and dancing for youth. Father Casey leads the effort with key novelties promised. Local residents Mr. Ryan and sons and Miss Jessie Ryan arrived from Eldora and will relocate to Greeley.

More Dollars are Needed for Pond at Island Grove Park
Subscriptions for the Island Grove skating pond are slowly rising as volunteers monitor weather and local enthusiasm.
