London endures a heavy air raid as German bombers strike coastal towns and inland targets. Reports describe waves of bombs, shell fire along the coast, and fires in cities, with limited defenses and civilian injuries amid intensified hostilities.
A fire at the Treasure Island exposition site in California destroyed a prominent building valued at 240000 dollars with 50000 dollars in insured contents. Four thousand people witnessed the blaze. One worker suffered a serious head injury while others escaped unharmed.
