Chinats Refuse To Reveal Nature Of Commie Plot

Formosa 61. The Chinese Nationalist government refused to disclose the nature of a Communist plot it claims to have nipped last May. Kuo Ting-liang, close associate of Chiang Kai-shek's chief of staff, led a group that allegedly sought to undermine the political training system and a 1952 defense ministry reform. Authorities were most troubled by claims Kuo and six associates propagandized among artists and veterans who served on the mainland under Gen Sun Li-jen, who has since resigned as Chiang's chief of staff.

Massachusetts Expects Polio Outbreak To EbB

Massachusetts health officials warned the polio outbreak may begin to diminish within two weeks despite record rainfall and floods. Director Roy Fy Feemster urged evacuees remain cautious as overexertion and wet clothing could affect cases. Massachusetts reported 62 new polio cases, total 1,606 for the year, compared with 199 at the same point last year. New England polio total rose to 2,078 Friday, vs 3 84 7 for the 1954 period.

Legislature Refused Aid to Colorado Public Health TB

Denver report by the Colorado Tuberculosis Association states the legislature refused to fund public health efforts in the prior winter session. It calls for expanded Health Dept funding, specific TB hospitalizations, public health nursing, case finding, and re stabilization services, noting Colorado's public health appropriations are among the lowest in the nation.

Steel Output Again Rising in Western Mills

Steel production climbed to 88.5 percent of rated capacity this week, signaling a rebound after a June drop during wage talks. Birmingham area resume of steelmaking followed a railroad strike, with inventories rising as orders hold steady. Automobile share rose to 23.9 percent of mill shipments, while construction fell to 11.4 percent in the first half of the year. Steel scrap prices edged down to 43.83 a gross ton, and finished steel held at 127.41 net tons.

Prince George's New Jail Gels Four Prisoners Back

Prince George's new 500000 jail received its first four prisoners earlier this week after a year and a half of construction. Warden W S Trant noted many kinks remain as the facility opens. The four men, previously held on forgery, burglary and false statements charges, were recaptured 20 miles east of the city Friday.
