Greeley Soldier Returns From North Africa Service

Pfc. Dick L. Kunkler of Greeley returns home after months in North Africa with an ordnance battalion. He arrived Thursday and received a medical discharge after care at Ashford General Hospital. His wife Louise works at the Chamber of Commerce office. The unit repaired and reconditioned motor equipment in Africa and included German and Italian POWs aboard the return ship.

Hodson resigns to take pastorate in California

Rev. Woody Hodson resigns from the Greeley First Baptist Church after Sunday services to seek release from duties. He plans to accept the pastorate at the First Baptist Church in Fullerton California. Hodson has led church and community roles in Colorado and nationally, including radio broadcasts and Baptist conventions, since October 1938.

Normandie Refloated Temporarily After River Drought

The former French luxury liner Normandie was refloated at about 4:30 PM after resting in the Hudson River since February 9, 1942. Mobile Blood Donor Unit Begins Work In City

A mobile blood donor unit starts Monday in Greeley at noon in front of the high school. Permanent staff from Danyer include Lt. Harwell, Cpl. Stein, Cpl. Ooelle, and Cpl. Bomber Crash on U P Track Causes Freight Wreck

An army bomber landed on the Western Pacific track near Wendover Utah seven miles east of town. Ten minutes later a freight train derailed due to a breach in the track. Second Lt Richard L Blue of Rantoul Minnesota was fatally injured in the bomber crash. Ten other crew members were injured, some critically.

Four Carloads 20 Inch Pipe Arrive for City

The first of four freight carloads of ROSE engineered pipe arrive to replace wooden water mains between Greeley and the city wells southwest of town. Water Superintendent Roy Seaman said the other three carloads are due soon. The pipes total 2,004 feet. The city plans to pave 18th Avenue between Tenth and Eleventh streets.
