W S Bean, Osceola Iowa banker, purchased a 640 acre section northeast of Greeley for 16000. Purcell Land Company completed the sale after Bean toured Weld County. Bean called the land incredibly fertile and predicted more Iowa money flowing into Weld County in coming months.
Weld county farmers plan to feed more cattle this winter as sheep and lambs become too expensive. A large hay crop cannot be profitably sold, so feeders will likely stock pens with cattle to use the hay. Cattle feeder contracts are encouraged while stockers sell at low market prices. Local visitors from Lohrville Iowa traveled to Boulder to visit friends. F D Markie near Ault reports 21 acres of oats yielding high.
The Greeley Grays defeated the J. D. s of Denver 9 to 8 in ten innings after a tight contest at the baseball park. Sullens pitched through fatigue and recovered to close the game, while C Morrin led with three singles in five at bats and Winkley starred for the visitors. The Grays had previously beaten the sugar factory team 6 to 4 with Sullens again pitching strongly in relief.
The Greeley Tribune adopts monthly billing for city subscribers starting today at 30 cents per month, with an option to pay a year in advance for $3.00. Country subscribers continue yearly mail billing at $3.00.

Frank Barriclow, a ditch rider for the Baton ditch in the Columbine district west of Baton, was found dead after three days missing. He was last seen Friday forenoon and his body surfaced in a field ditch Sunday afternoon as searchers, resting, located the remains near the site of his last work assignment.
Illinois residents gathered at Seelys lake for a first of its kind northern Weld county picnic. The event drew many families including Mr and Mrs Peter Weasel and others. A second statewide picnic is planned for September 6 with hopes for annual reunions and organization formation.
