Death rate in Colorado rises blamed on Hong Kong flu
Colorado health officials attribute last year’s higher death rate to the Hong Kong flu. Figures show flu and pneumonia linked to 953 deaths in 1988 up from 613 in 1987, with heart disease and emphysema also affected. Total 1988 deaths: 17,703. rate 8.6 per 1,000. Men accounted for 56 percent, median ages 68.3 for men and 78.2 for women.
