The Weld County Republicans designate a full county slate by acclamation including Harley L. Grable for clerk and recorder, Jesse R. Patterson for treasurer, J. L. Garpanter for aspensor, William A. Carlson for county commissioner, L. L. Stimson for surveyor, Dr. A. C. McCain and Dr. J. A. Weaver for coroner, F. Pato Woolston for representative to the legislature, and Mosea E. Stone, W. C. Tegtmann, and A. J. Finch for sheriff. Attorney General Robert S. Wimbourn to seek reelection.
Gehlbach and Datrait landed in Detroit at 7:42 today finishing first among 10 remaining finalists in the All American air derby tour. Local spectacle drew spectators as the field narrowed toward the final stop.
A head on collision three miles north of Grover involved a parked truck and two cars. Victims include Mrs. Shooders Lynch and Bully Hostetter of Pueblo. Injured: Ire Roberts Jr of Grover and Betty Lynch of Colorado Springs. Mrs. Lynch survived. J. C. Hostetter and a child also harmed. Local families report serious injuries and hospital care ongoing.
Colorado Day was observed with a training school assembly in Denver on August 1 as the state’s 4 year old formation was celebrated. Pupils presented two scenes showing state birds and flowers, and Colorado’s early history with maps, stories, and depictions of miners, cowboys, and explorers, concluding with an explanation of the state flag colors and meaning.

A Republican district assembly for Weld County delegates is set at Loveland City Hall on Saturday August 2. A second district congressional assembly meets at the Brown Palace in Denver at 7 30 p m with county delegates invited. The state assembly follows the next day at 10 a m at Denver Municipal Auditorium.
A long roster lists Gratn Assembly delegates led by Mayor Trotha and a separate line of Congressional Dailgates. The names include G Z Bradfield, J T Snyder, William Boutrom, Robert McCarty, Carl A Barry, D G Carlson, and many others across multiple groups. Page 12 reference noted.
Robert E. Winbourn, longtime Greeley attorney and Colorado attorney general candidate, received two ovations from Weld County GOP leaders on Thursday afternoon. He thanked the assembly after the endorsement and nomination of Jesse Patterson for county treasurer, while a separate motion praised his endorsement. The Baxs.
Dr George Raiguel spoke at the Little Theater on Oriental problems Japan and China, warning that rapid modern methods without spiritual ideals could poison civilization. He argued Japan’s rise stems from war and criticized Western propaganda, urging America to guide Asia away from conflict and toward unity under shifting leadership.
The county Republican Party held a nominating session with Moses Stone leading the sheriff race after receiving 361 1/2 votes. W C Tegtman and A J Pinch trailed, Stone praised by supporters while Pinch failed to secure a ticket spot. In the coroner race, A C McCain led over J A Weaver by a margin of 105 votes, Weaver falling short of the required 136 to stay on the ticket.
Growers from major sugar beet producing states plan a Saturday gathering in Graving to form the National Beet Growers Association under federal order. Samuel R. Mekelylo, Nebraska governor and grain board member, is named as the sole speaker. Delegates from 16 states were expected, with committee work underway at Mountain States Beet Growers Marketing Association.
Scattered returns from Denver precincts show Hodges narrowly leading Shaw in the U.S. Senate nomination race. At 9:39 p.m. Hodges was reported ahead after two precincts counted, with more than 300 precincts in the county.
Hansell Whitesell, longtime private secretary to United States Senator Cherles Dencon of Uinale, was treated for scalp wounds after a hitchhiker attacked him with a hammer near Kersey. Whitesell said the assailant demanded the car, threatened with a gun, and fled when help returned. The incident occurred after Whitesell invited the man to spend the night at a ranch near Gresley.
Republican Assembly at a meeting here adopted resolutions pledging tax reform and equal tax burdens, praising the national O. P. administration, protective tariff, and water rights protection in the state. Two committees led by Rolls R. Iatty and Greelay Quomney prepared the statement for the assembly.
A general tax discussion conference to be held in Denver on August 1 has been announced to the Greeley chamber of commerce and Homer Bedford county assessor. Mr Bedford will attend with Professor Jens P Jensen of the University of Kansas added to lead the discussion. The meeting is organized by the state association of commercial organizations.
Arthur Williams Jr of Providence Rhode Island was chosen by Thomas Edison as the top prizewinner from 48 contestants for the Edison scholarship. Selected from essays and exams, he will pursue a four year technological and scientific course at a college of his choice. Other top finishers included Gordon Borns and Wolf Schatzal with several honorable mentions. Williams, 17, is a descendant of Roger Williams and was valedictorian at East Providence high school.
