New Exhibit Division at Weld County Junior Fair

Weld County announces a new apex division for the Second Annual Weld County Junior Fair to be held at the Greeley Fairgrounds September 13 and 12. Grover Man Critically Injured in Auto Crash Kills Two

A head on collision three miles north of Grover involved a parked truck and two cars. Victims include Mrs. Shooders Lynch and Bully Hostetter of Pueblo. Injured: Ire Roberts Jr of Grover and Betty Lynch of Colorado Springs. Mrs. Lynch survived. J. C. Hostetter and a child also harmed. Local families report serious injuries and hospital care ongoing.

Colorado Day Observed by C T C Pupils

Colorado Day was observed with a training school assembly in Denver on August 1 as the state’s 4 year old formation was celebrated. Pupils presented two scenes showing state birds and flowers, and Colorado’s early history with maps, stories, and depictions of miners, cowboys, and explorers, concluding with an explanation of the state flag colors and meaning.

Contest for Sheriff Post Draws Nominating Session

The county Republican Party held a nominating session with Moses Stone leading the sheriff race after receiving 361 1/2 votes. W C Tegtman and A J Pinch trailed, Stone praised by supporters while Pinch failed to secure a ticket spot. In the coroner race, A C McCain led over J A Weaver by a margin of 105 votes, Weaver falling short of the required 136 to stay on the ticket.

Shaw and Hodges Running Close in Denver

Scattered returns from Denver precincts show Hodges narrowly leading Shaw in the U.S. Senate nomination race. At 9:39 p.m. Hodges was reported ahead after two precincts counted, with more than 300 precincts in the county.

Man Attacked by Hitch Hiker Near Kersey

Hansell Whitesell, longtime private secretary to United States Senator Cherles Dencon of Uinale, was treated for scalp wounds after a hitchhiker attacked him with a hammer near Kersey. Whitesell said the assailant demanded the car, threatened with a gun, and fled when help returned. The incident occurred after Whitesell invited the man to spend the night at a ranch near Gresley.

Resolutions Commending Administration of National and County Offices

Republican Assembly at a meeting here adopted resolutions pledging tax reform and equal tax burdens, praising the national O. Tax discussion in Denver on Aug

A general tax discussion conference to be held in Denver on August 1 has been announced to the Greeley chamber of commerce and Homer Bedford county assessor. Mr Bedford will attend with Professor Jens P Jensen of the University of Kansas added to lead the discussion. The meeting is organized by the state association of commercial organizations.

Rhode Island Lad Wins Edison Honor

Arthur Williams Jr of Providence Rhode Island was chosen by Thomas Edison as the top prizewinner from 48 contestants for the Edison scholarship. Selected from essays and exams, he will pursue a four year technological and scientific course at a college of his choice. Other top finishers included Gordon Borns and Wolf Schatzal with several honorable mentions. Williams, 17, is a descendant of Roger Williams and was valedictorian at East Providence high school.
