Bandits who admitted kidnapping and shooting Denver miner Kenneth Masamun Geary were captured near Hardin after a lengthy chase. Cletus Massman, 22, and Kenneth Masamun Geary were involved in a denver incident, with Geary wounded and hospitalized. The pair fled east, then hid in Platte River, the sheriff and deputies pursuing. Geary, 54, remained in critical condition. the suspects were eventually arrested by Weld County officers and courtesy patrols after an extensive manhunt.
Three members of the Cassidy family confessed plotting the death of 20 year old Helen Gassidy to gain custody of her four children. Elton Cassidy, 24, admitted choking her on February 26 at her farm home and hanging her body. Charles Cassidy, 23, and Matilda Cassidy, 46, also pleaded guilty in circuit court to first degree murder, facing life imprisonment mandatory.
British officials remain unconvinced by Adal Slider's claim to repudiate the Angl-Ges naval pact with Germany. The accord signed June 15, 1935 restricted Germany to 35 percent of Britain’s total navy tonnage and limited armaments, while Germany began expanding its forces and cruisers by December 1, 1938. A wreck four miles south of Lawn injured farmer Lee H Garcia, Sr., after he missed a turn while returning from a call to aid his daughter in law in childbirth. His son Lee H Garcia Jr and Mrs Helen Garcia welcomed a five pound girl named June Ann, born at the Garcia home and delivered by an attending physician who then brought the grandfather to Greeley hospital after lacerations and a dislocated vertebra.
In a Senate foreign relations session, Senator Hiram Johnson contended the United States was being drawn into war by aggressive propagan da and deceptive preparation. Professor Charles C. Tansill warned of dangers in empowering the presidency on neutrality matters. A separate obituary notes a private funeral for an infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Lyle Crowe. Local golf news reports Greeley golfers defeating Longmont and facing a high school match Saturday at the cantonment course.
Soviet long distance flyer General Valldimir Kokkinaki planned a projected transatlantic flight from Moscow to New York. He and Major Gordeinko will attempt a direct course via Iceland and Greenland around 4 600 miles, following a sweeping arc over Norway Iceland Labrador Newfoundland New Brunswick and along the Maine coast toward Floyd Bennett Field.
In Fort Collins April 28 a big college commercial contest honored Laramie and Adams City pupils. Elmers of Adams City won the champion bookkeeper award in restaurant commercial work. Mary Nylander of Adams City scored 12.5 for standouts, while other pupils earned top notices in shorthand and typing contests at Colorado State College of Education.
Dr. Atterberry, detained in Fremont County Jail, tried to kill himself with a wrist wound and neck injury. A jury found him guilty of strangling his wife, and District Judge James Cooper sentenced him to life in prison, with appeals noted and a Denver arrival for custody.
Two local women were badly injured in a head on collision at Seventy Street and Mwellth Avenue. Mrs Michel Strela, 20, suffered a fracture of the lumbar vertebra while Mrs Noy Marehead, 48, sustained a fractured pelvis. Roy Morencad, 1240 Ninth Street, owner of Morehead restraint shop, was uninjured. Timothy, a freshman at Greeley Trade College, was noted in the police report. All of Wold county's school districts vote on Monday May 1 with first class districts including Greeley and Whalger electing two board members. Other districts numbering 192 will elect treasurers or seek alternate positions. candidates must be 24, reside in the state a year, in the county 90 days, in the district 30 days, and be a city resident.
