Engineers and district directors finished a full inspection trip over the Greeley Poudre Irrigation district. Petitions for desert and homestead tracts circulate. entry must file by May 15 with affidavit of rights and taxes equal to patent holders.
The Ault Rebekah lodge earned 25 dollars from a Friday night Armory program including musical entertainment one act drama and a box social. Contributors to the musical program were Mrs. Uaie Miss Hubbell Miss Hasbrouck Tom White Lynn Ryan Walter Runnells and Vincent Lowry. The Obstsinate Family cast featured GO. W. McKinley Mrs. Frank Harris Claude Rhoads Nettie Collins George Morrison and Mrs. Lula Minnis.
Sterling Colorado April 24 The Northern Colorado Power Co has bought the Sterling Public Service plant and will take charge by 1. This makes the twenty sixth plant the Northern company has on over.
Home Advertising Manager Lindner receives Muscatine paper showing a half page display by city merchants. A large Armory like building hosted booths with free product demonstrations across lines of household interest. The event touted superior quality and low prices versus mail order houses with a community reception and souvenir distribution.
The Lady Maccabees hosted a sock social at Odd Fellows hall on Thursday night. Guests filled little red socks with nickels dimes and pennies to cover admission and a cafeteria supper. By the end the group counted about 30 dollars raised for their cause.
A. K. B fraternity held a Fort Collins banquet at Masonic temple on Friday night with a 6 30 dinner and dancing to follow. The Greenley party included Cynthia Raine Mary Barr Tessa Grable Alice Taylor Faye Pattee Mrs Eugene Williams Harrison Woodruff and R B McDermott.
A young man named Charles Doane injured on the railroad near Eaton on March 18 drags himself to William Armitage’s home, is treated by the Eaton railroad physician, and moved to the county hospital. He is slowly dying and may live a week or ten days.
Senator W A Drake of Fort Collins toured Colorado lamb farms noting 12 000 lambs fed in the north and 23 000 in the south with only 250 loads left in northern Colorado. He cites abominable spring weather, high alfalfa prices, and costly feed as dragging profits, and warns feeders may raise prices this fall while lambs gain only 4 5 pounds monthly. He foresees a tight fall market and a big lamb crop in New Mexico Arizona and southern Colorado. The second thimble party at Mrs Boyle’s home drew about fifty guests Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Dinnie M. Hayes, state superintendent of rescue work for the W C T U, will address the First Methodist congregation Sunday evening. Her prepared sermon emphasizes home life as the source of moral preservation and the need for biblical instruction and steadfast motherhood. A separate note recalls a brave rescue by young Margaret Blair who rode out a runaway horse with calm nerve to avoid injury.
Mrs B F Woodruff hosted thimble parties with Mesdames Woodruff Boyle and Baker Thursday and Friday afternoons. About forty five guests joined in needlework then games and refreshments. The event provided a pleasant social afternoon for all attendees.
Rolland Jones, 24, long-time Greeley resident, held for a Friday morning hearing as his mental state is described as unsound. He wanders and talks to himself laughing, with random talk when questioned. Officials expect recovery after months of treatment. Meanwhile Young Coakley, brought from Denver by deputy, shows more severe deterioration than weeks ago, tearing clothes and raving constantly.
Ben Marsh oversees dropping two immense boilers into the Camfield hotel basement to heat both the hotel and a new building planned by Mr. Camfield across the street on the former Neill Lumber site. A four month delay was caused by a strong subterranean current delaying cementing the cellar floor now two feet thick with iron. Bar ber Gordon contractors report bricklayers set to work on the new structure next week.
Special to the Daily Fencea March 17 Lillien Russell nearly died this morning after a waiter sampled a glass of Poland Water at breakfast in her private dining car. The bottle had been mislabeled and contained formaldehyde. the waiter fell ill but is expected to recover.
Mrs. Harry Evans and her young child escaped unharmed when a horse bolted near LaSalle as she collected mail. The animal reared and toppled the buggy before a farmhand freed it from the harness. both Mrs. Evans and the baby suffered no injuries.
Mrs Lizzie Green and Mr and Mrs H E Williams hosted a card party at Mrs Green’s home southeast of town. Four tables played progressive high five with prizes won by A E Frye for men and Miss Anna Green for ladies. Boobies were claimed by Jesse Nolin and Mrs William Tell. Refreshments followed the social hour.
A group in Greeley reported seeing three moons and three lamp posts moving past them. They were unable to catch any, and later could not locate the keyhole, though they kept quiet about it and did not inform a reporter.
Sheriff set to escort Charles Hansen from his Wisconsin home to Chicago on requisition papers to answer bigamy and theft allegations. Chicago police report Hansen has a wife in Sweden besides his spouse in the state and a $3000 draft on him.
A tramp narrowly escaped coal gas asphyxiation while another tramp died from coal gas effects near Canon City's Groves suburb. The two men rested by a burning ash pile that has burned for years, with a watchman saving the survivor just in time.
The Platteville trial over the Flanagans and Dr Stuenwold enters its second day in county court with both sides claiming money and breach of contract. The Flanagans tenants seek 900 dollars while Stuenwold counters with 1100. Charlies Southard leads the plaintiffs and Joseph C. Ewing with Dakan of Longmont defend Stuenworld.
The applications of John S. Mc Clare Edward S. Jones John W. Birkle George T Raney C L Voll mar and others to organize the Platteville National Bank of Platte ville Colo with 25000 capital have been approved by the comptroller of the currency. All are well known men at Platte ville and the prospect is receiving strong public backing.
