Weather warnings issued in Colorado as snow hits Rockies

More than half a foot of new snow blanketed Colorado mountains by Sunday morning as a new storm moved into New Mexico prompting the weather bureau to issue stockmen's and travelers' warnings for the state. Eight inches fell at Berthoud Pass and Denver saw about an inch with a high near 30. Snow showers were forecast for higher elevations with cooler temps ahead.

Costilla undersheriff killed in Ft. Garland shootout

Costilla County Undersheriff Rudy Sanchez age 25 died from chest wounds after a bar and cafe shooting in Ft. Garland. Two San Luis deputy sheriffs Frank Vigil and David Valdez were wounded and hospitalized in fair condition, one stabbed and the other shot. The incident happened around 1am at Navajo Trail Bar and Cafe as officers responded to a disturbance. Two suspects fled toward the New Mexico border in a camper pickup. Authorities in New Mexico were alerted.
