Spanish nonintervention blockade patrol to halt U S ships in Spanish waters. U S vessels must show papers. ships of other nations may be searched for contraband. Britain France Italy and Germany join the embargo and monitor ships at coastal approaches and frontier points.
Wallace Wickster, 45, once a farmer near Platteville now Morgan County resident, admitted stealing a saddle found at a meal sale yard. Sheriff Ballard of Adams County took him into custody after Wickster’s initial denial and the saddle was identified at the jail.
Beet planting moves quickly across Wel county and nearby districts. Greeley and Baton factories report about 4,000 acres planted at Greeley and 8,000 in Eaton, with a broader state total near 34,000 acres. Beets contracting advances as officials note favorable moisture and potential for a large crop. factory managers forecast one of the largest in years, with several districts over their quotas. Florence Tany funeral set for Saturday at 2:30 pm at Sattler Federal Home, Linn Grove.
Mrs. George W. Cummings of 1201 Eighth street was severely injured when she fell from a fast moving car driven by her daughter Mira Waters on the Fort Morgan to Greeley highway. She is in Greeley hospital with a fractured right arm and head injuries, expected to remain hospitalized for several days.
A federal agent was shot four times and critically wounded during an attempt to arrest a suspected New York bank robber and his accomplice in Topeka Kansas. A bystander was wounded in the foot as the group fired about 20 shots in the post office lobby. The suspects fled in a car left outside.
The Interstate Commerce Commission found an axle journal burned off by a roller bearing failure in a derailment near Orchard, Cab. on February 8. A 11-man jury reviewed the site and noted wheel bearing malfunction. The commission plans to install bearing blocks and replace worn gear to standardize new streamlined cars on the Union Pacific network.
Washington April 16 The manager of one of the largest coal estates in Harlan County testified before the La Follette civil liberties committee that he had violated the National Labor Relations Act since its passage. He said the company had begun operations and required workers to pledge not to join unions or engage in collective bargaining. The Wagner Act guarantees workers the right to organize. The witness agreed with chairman La Follette that yellow dog contracts violate labor law.
County Judge Robert G Strang denied the petition to set aside the sale of a note tied to Virginia H Brewer estate. The note for 1200 dollars was sold to L P Norton of Garden City by Benjamin A Woodcock as conservator. Judge ruled no evidence of collusion between Woodcock Norton or Rays, and upheld sale for 500 dollars.
In Kansas City, eight participants in a federal vote fraud conspiracy were sentenced. Irene Brennan, a Democratic judge, received two years in a reformatory and an $800 fine. Other defendants included Charles Kaleor, James McNamara, TM Shannabarger, Nancy Constable, Nancy Bod enloumer, Benala D. Adames, and Everett Pippi, with varied prison terms and fines. The judge ordered no probation for most.
Raymond Walter 25 and M J Samson 84 of Ault pleaded guilty in justice court to assault and battery of John Derr. They were fined $10 and costs and had prior fines for creating a disturbance. Witnesses described a fight sparked by Walter driving by and recognizing Derr, who had a prior score with him.

The Greeley Chamber of Commerce publicity committee gathers material and photos for a new county and city promotional book. Members William Larry McArthur 34 and others plan to advertise Greeley and Ward County in the upcoming publication, following the last issue printed three years ago.
In Alamosa on April 19, beet laborers in the Ban Lite valley will be paid $20 per acre for production up to 42 tons per acre and $1 for each additional ton. The contract was signed by the San Luis Valley Beet Growers Association after conferences with growers. Association heads termed it the most equitable contract approved in recent years.
A Hudson constable is accused of unlawfully levying on Mrs. Eva Britton’s pigs to satisfy a judgment, claiming exemption. The suit seeks damages of 375 and costs while alleging improper qualification and conduct by Constable Baley. Preliminary divorces and other civil actions referenced include Frahlen v Jones and Aline v Keefauver.

Samuel Wilco a 60 year old man died in county jail shortly before night Thursday after illness from lunacy complaint. He had been confined since Tuesday and became violent requiring a padded cell. Survived by wife Sarah Jane two sons and three daughters, with funeral planned Tuesday at Armstrong Memorial chapel Walton. Burial in Linn Grove Cemetery.
