Tuesday was election day on the CSCE campus with FETS students voting for next year’s student council officers and class officers. Candidates include Glendon Ewen Phi Delt, Greeley, Kennie Blea, independent Kreeley, for student council president. Betty Branning Delta Pi Omega Grand Junction and Shirtey Corponter Independent LaSalle ace candidates for vice president. Dorothy Sweet Independent Greeley Genetic Renning Pl Kappa Sigma Greeley and Hernler Alkire Independent Pierce vie for secretary. Nine representatives will be chosen from 76 nominees at the primaries.
Colorado Springs April 15 Proctor W Nichols president of Ate craft Mechanica Inc announced a big contract with the International Association of Mechanters APS after months of negotiations affecting 260 employees. The one year deal provides a four hour week and a wage scale ranging from 60 cents to 1.10 per hour for Maghlyek Wed workers. The APG agency is recognized as sole collective bargaining agent for the workers.
A regional effort to federalize Highway No. 34 extending from Chicago through Galesburg and Ottumwa to Plattsmouth with a final stretch to Salt Lake is outlined. The plan, discussed at a Shicola meeting of the Highway No. 4 Association, seeks national status for the route and upgrades along segments. Lena Sk. Hines was reelected president with C. B. Sai as vice president.
White Plains April 5 two outside helpers in the Sing Sing prison break admitted their part in the escape. William Wade 42 and Edward Kiernan 32 confessed to smuggling three revolvers into the jail under a delivery truck chassis. They aided in the four man breakout that freed Josaph Bloodau Charles McGale and John Waters. Waters was killed during a guard shooting and the others were captured hours later. The two still unnamed accomplices were hunted.
London reports large Imperial forces released from East Africa move toward Meyot and Tobruk as Axis forces tighten westward. Tobruk reports 200 to 300 German captures and 12 German planes downed. Egypt braces for possible British defense under Wavell amid rising Axis pressure on Alexandria and the Suez route.
Heavy snowfall and rain drenched Weld County and the Greeley region, with snow totals rising to 184 inches this year and February records set.
