Union Colony Pioneers Reelect Officers at Annual Meeting

The Union Colony Pioneer association held its annual meeting at the courthouse with about twenty five members in attendance. All old officers were unanimously reelected and an assessment of 26 cents was levied to cover expenses and fund the September banquet.

Potato Special Over Rio Grande Railroad Train

The Rio Grande Agricultural College potato institute ran a week starting March 29 a free special train from Salida to Montrose. Four cars and an engine carried farming machinery and potato samples while farmers and families heard lectures by Colorado Agricultural College staff on potato diseases storage and cultivation methods.

Potatoes Spark Growth Mission Tours Colorado Towns

The potato promotion tour aided Greeley farmers to grow potatoes for a $3,000,000 market. Rothschild showcased samples and market needs while B. W. Robbins of the D and R G railroad and Prof. H. M. Cottrell led meetings. The tour covered 671 miles, visited 23 towns, held 26 meetings with 1,925 attendees.

Kingsburys Settle Rail Dispute Near Evans

William and John Kingsbury and Union Pacific reach a settlement ending long litigation over a ditch along the Evans right of way. Terms dismiss all suits in district court and in the Denver supreme court. The Kingsburys will vacate the ground if railroad needs to place a track at the disputed point.

In Colorado a four nominee party ticket faces questions of eligibility on the town election board affecting T L Greer and B A Wilkins. The close mayoral race left Nixon ahead by 13 votes, raising possible disqualification of new officers and possible continuation of the old board and mayor.

Delay in New Train Inauguration For St Louis Denver Service

The St Louis to Denver coast service will not start until May first, not April fourteenth as planned. The coast-to-coast run via the Wabash and Union Pacific will debut on April twenty fifth or May first. Thirty five new coaches are being built at Decatur for the St Louis Denver trains at a total cost of 1,125,000 dollars.

Bound over to District Court is 21 year old Will Cooper in two charges linked to Eva Killham 14. Judge Hatch set bonds at 800 dollars each. he failed to post and remains jailed. Authorities say Cooper admitted enough to amount to a confession.

Funeral of Bennett Boy in Eaton Special

The body of Eugene Bennett, a little over a year old, was interred at Eaton Cemetery after dying of pneumonia. His parents live on a ranch 3.5 miles southwest of Greeley. Rev. Payne led the graveside service. Marshal Williams received a statue of Billiken from a Denver admirer, brightening his mood no longer troubled by the blues.

Northern Colorado Teachers Meet in Boulder

The Northern Colorado Teachers association held a successful meeting in Boulder with teachers from across the northern district in attendance. Fort Collins High School principal A. W. Dunn was elected president for next year and the next gathering planned for Fort Collins. Transport woes soured travel, with crowded cars and a late return train, but participants remained upbeat about the experience.

Periodical burglar strikes Bullard store again

Local burglars hit Scott Bullard’s store Saturday night mirroring a prior Eaton job. About 100 dollars in revolvers and patches were taken after a back window was pried with a putty knife left behind. A suspect was arrested at the depot as mud prints matched his shoes.
