Cuban Officials Free Seven US Skindivers After Cuba Release

Seven American treasure hunters detained in Cuba were freed and are in good health in Havana. Ambassador Stadelhöfer said the men are lodged with three servants and will remain over the weekend. State Department said it worked through the Swiss Embassy due to no U S Cuba diplomatic ties. Secretary Rusk called the men innocent treasure hunters and said the United States would press for their release.

Over 400 Students At Weld County State Music Festival

More than 400 students from Weld and Larimer counties attended the Weld County State Music Festival on Colorado State College campus. Schools represented include Ault, Cache La Poudre, Central High, Eaton, Evans, Galeton, Johnstown, Milliken, New Rayner, Pierce, Platte Valley, Valley High, Wellington and Windsor. Early judging yielded several top ratings in piano, woodwind, vocal solos, and instrumental ensembles with numerous named students earning honors.

Fire destroys tire fire storage shed in Greeley

Firefighters battled a heavy blaze at a General Tire Co. storage shed on 8th Ave. over three hours Friday afternoon. Fire Chief Bruce Forbes reported more than 12000 in damage as the wooden building and stacks of tires burned, with flames visible across parts of Greeley. Nearby structures and traffic were briefly affected while crews contained the fire.

Ecuador Army hunts rebels amid state of emergency

The Ecuadorian army declared a state of emergency in the northcentral region near Quito and pursued Castro aligned guerrillas led by the Revolutionary Union of Ecuadorean Youth. At least one soldier died, several wounded, and 20 insurgents were captured as government forces reinforced the area.

Brotzman enters 2nd District GOP congressional race

Donald G. Brotzman a 38 year old Boulder attorney formally entered the Republican nomination race for Congress in the northern Colorado district. A veteran and former United States attorney for Colorado he pledged strong national defense and opposed government overreach. He previously served in the Colorado General Assembly and was born June 28 1922 in Logan County.

French to vote on Algeria peace pact amid doubt and violence
