The Colorado Senate approved a bill to let pharmacists substitute generic drugs for brand name versions. It passed 31 to 1 with only Senator Harold McCormick of Canon City voting against. The amended bill would permit substitution unless the prescribing doctor indicated otherwise.
The bill requires the generic to be identical in nature and effect to the brand name and to cost less than the brand name. It moves back to the House for consideration of Senate amendments. The Senate also approved a bill guaranteeing patient access to medical records.
