Court Orders Damages Against Watrous

Denver United States District Judge Knolls ordered $10,500 in damages to four Glenwood Springs residents in a suit against State Highway Engineer Mark U. Watrous. Plaintiffs say a new Glenwood Springs bridge over the Colorado River extended 125 feet south on Grand Ave, cutting off their properties. Awarded $5,000 to Leslie Bailpie and wife, $2,500 to Everett and Catherine Oelker, owners of a car sales firm, and defendants included Gardner Construction Co. owners Barry and Maurice Gardner.

Fred Arens Sr of LaSalle Dies at 79

Fred Arens Sr 79 longtime Weld County resident died suddenly Sunday afternoon west of Greeley while with family at a restaurant. Born November 3 1877 in Indiana he lived near La Salle 62 years ago and was active in the Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Co Beebe Draw school board Presbyterian elder and Lions Club member. Survived by widow Josephine four children and 11 grandchildren funeral Wednesday at Macy’s drawing room with interment Linn Grove. Memorials to First Presbyterian Church of LaSalle.

Nine Killed When Plane Crashes Near Dickson Tenn

A Langley Field Langley Va TB-25 bomber crashed eight miles south of Dickson Tennessee en route to Memphis. Nine persons were reported killed with two survivors describing an explosion at eight thousand feet. Lt. Gol. King Matthews of the Tennessee Air National Guard confirmed nine deaths as five bodies were recovered.

Six Die In Three Colorado Auto Crashes

Six people were killed in three separate Colorado traffic crashes, raising the state death toll to 37 for the year. Victims include Mrs. Jane McGinn and her husband John, Danny Farlane, Joe Martinez, a pickup passenger, and two Lamar newspaper staffers Sewell and Martinez. The crashes occurred near Denver on the Valley Highway, at a curve on the San Juan River Road in Archuleta County, and seven miles east of Lamar on US Highway 50.

Colorado Legislature Gives Final Passages on School Finance and Water District Escape

Colorado's legislature completed revival of a 29 million dollar school program with a compromise school finance bill and a measure allowing cities to escape from water conservation districts. The Senate approved a 30-4 compromise with House leaders, setting a 21.85 million major appropriation and transportation at 1.3 million. The House and Senate adjournment was delayed as final bills, including the city escape measure and school funding, moved toward enactment.

Spanish-Descent Folk Boy Park School Flag Display

A new flag for Park School will be raised after a Denver DAR member sparked controversy by a disparaging remark about Mexican boys.
