Establish a Geese Colony in Iowa Game Unit
A second flock of 40 Canada geese from wild trapped stock has been established in the Ingham-Itight game management unit near Wallingford to create permanent nesting colonies. The birds are kept in large pens near water, wing-clipped, with young released to the wild. Biologists expect the homing instinct to return birds to their birthplace each year, supplementing the nesting sites. The first flock of 55 geese at Rice Lake last year is now nesting and several nests contain eggs.
