A last week wind storm toppled brooders near Carroll Posten and Mes Tom Lower homes, killing young poultry. Rain showers in the latter part of the week totaled about 1.2 inches per the local rain gauge, with more needed to help the area.
Horace Beemer and his wife traveled to St. Joe on Sunday to visit Mrs. Geo Beemer Jr. They returned Monday. Their daughter Judith Kay remains at the Claude Moore home while son Jack stays with his grandparents Russell and wife Farrens during the absence.
Mrs Lon Burwell dies at her Albany Oregon home. Her body will arrive here Saturday and burial is planned for Saturday at 2 00 PM with a graveside service. The Rev Biggerstaff will conduct the cemetery service.
Harold Dowell organized a pleasant surprise party for his wife Sunday evening to celebrate her birthday. Two tables of bridge were played with guests Dr and Mrs Thomson, Mr and Mrs Lester Posten, and Mr and Mrs Claude Moore. Mrs Moore won high score as refreshments followed the bridge session.
Homer Tagle and his wife spent a Sunday afternoon visiting Mrs. Fannie Kimpton and Mrs. Ada Reynolds, sharing hospitality and conversation in a friendly social call.
Dr and Mrs L T Reed and Mrs Laura Kent left Tuesday for Decoration Day observances in Seymour and Powersville. They visited Silas Reed the doctors eldest brother in Powersville then traveled to Davis City to see another brother Dr Guy Reed, returning Wednesday.
Mrs Gace Ailen and her daughter from Galena Illinois arrived Friday to stay until after Decoration Day with her mother Mrs Robert Marshall and grandmother Mrs Mary Peters She will be joined home later by another daughter LaVonne who has been living with the grandmothers and attending school here
The Methodist Ladies Aid met at the home of Mrs. Frank Downing with Mrs. O M Buckner presiding. Deov tions led by Mrs. Ledgerwood and program chairs Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Leighton. Plans set for a Father Son Banquet on June 9. Mrs. McMabill and Mary Hill assigned to discuss Gravity rest room. Readings by Ackley Lower Masker Leighton, vocal by Beemer, clarinet by Hope. Strawberries cup cake cream coffee served.
Mrs Homer Beemer traveled to St Joe Monday to stay with Mrs Gio. Beemer Jr and Mrs Horace Beemer went down this morning. They were joined by Mrs dames Lottie McColm Harold Dowell and Claude Moore for a day visit.
Dwight Lewis and his wife from Bedford visited Dunday with her parents Tom Cunningham and his wife.
Mrs Walter Osburn Mrs S B Smith and son Herbert Reeve attended church services at Guss on Sunday in a brief local social note.
Mr and Mrs EB Posten and daughter Gertrude attended Decoration Day exercises at Guss, taking part in the community event. Gertrude Posten was seated with relatives, and the family observed the ceremonies with respect.
Joe Sexton of Dainsville Missouri visited with his sisters and brother Mrs Jim Hamilton and Phillip Liston and Nate Sexton, sharing a family gathering that highlighted kinship and community ties in the region.
Mrs Mae Roush and her brother Ora Cade of New Market visited in St Joe on Friday to see their very ill nephew Gilpert Brown in the capital. They were accompanied by Mrs Roush's daughter Wilma Long.
Mr and Mrs James Welch of Des Moines visited Saturday night and Sunday with the latter s father J E Clark and wife.
Gertrude Posten Mildred Barker Ida Posten Lottie Kimpton Mabel Keith Emma Price Bessie Barker Pauline Levi traveled by car to the Royal Neighbor convention in Clearfield on Thursday. The group exemplified Draping the Charter.
Lewis Walker drove to St. Joe on Saturday and returned with his mother Mrs. Ray Walker who had been receiving treatment at the hospital. She is much improved.
Okla Dalgrene and his wife from near Hopkins visited at the T R Hefley home Sunday. Mr Hefley is assisting with farm work this week. Mrs Hefley and Arlo left Tuesday morning to visit Mrs Hefley s mother at Madtenola.
Rabies does not depend on hot weather with February and March often showing more cases. Prompt Pasteur treatment after dog bites saves lives. Have offending dogs confined for weeks, vaccinate pets annually, and cooperate with humane societies to control stray animals. Delays increase fatal risk.
Mrs and Mrs John Schooling and Roscoe plus Mrs Mary Thomas of Nodaway spent a Sunday at the Ralph Schooling home. Horace Nickel visited the Hildred Diggs household. The 4H Host Happy Home Hustlers plan an ice cream social at Cleaver Went home on June 9 to fund a delegate to the Ames convention on June 14. Several other local visits and farewells noted including Temple visits, Decoration services, and a Storm Lake trip for a brother’s illness and funeral.
Mr and Mrs Roy Coan of Des Moines visited Tuesday and stayeduntil Wednesday morning at the homes of their sisters Mrs J S Francis and Mrs Ray Walker respectively
