An empty whisky bottle found in a twenty acre pasture owned by Fred Jackson near Florence Nebraska was left overnight. In the morning sun the bottle heated by hot rays ignited remaining drops, causing a small blaze on the grass.
A fire started in a small pasture west of town last Thursday burned ten acres before help arrived. Jackson, returning from Florence with water for his family and stock, found neighbors beating out the flames with gunny sacks. The incident may explain the blaze’s origin in the dry grass surrounding the field.
An Iowa attorney general opinion released Wednesday concludes that displaying cigarette advertising in windows of establishments within 400 feet of a public school is unlawful during vacation periods. The guidance clarifies enforcement scope for local authorities and retailers.
Henry Ford and Edsel plan an experimental 600 horsepower diesel engine for streamline trains with W. A. Harriman and other railroad men. Oak Hill reports many absences and asks attendance at the 10:00 a.m. worship and 11:00 a.m. church school.
