St Mihiel Salient Blotted Out By American Army

London reports reveal twelve thousand prisoners and sixty nine guns captured as the St Mihiel salient falls to American forces. The Verdun to Nancy railway opens to the Entente and the front is reduced from about forty miles to under twenty. By Sept 13 the advance continues with over twenty thousand prisoners, amid abandoned munitions and equipment. Paris notes wounded Americans praising the victory and describes a fierce fight in dense woods and along the Moselle rail line.

Washington reports a Pershing communique shows American and French forces needed 27 hours to seize the St Mihiel salient liberating 150 square miles, taking 15,000 prisoners and capturing over 100 guns of various calibers along with hundreds of machine guns and trench mortars.
