The jury convicted Charles Jarrett of murder after a 28 hour deliberation. He faces a prison term of not less than 10 nor more than 25 years with hard labor. Jarrett protested the verdict claiming innocence as sentence was pronounced. Mrs. Jarrett cried softly in court.

Governor Dixon vetoed Senate bill 17, the city and county budget bill, and trimmed several legislative appropriations by over 600000.
