Last week at Chico Hot Springs, John 8 Matheson, famed Montana freighter who drove the Lewistown to Great Falls route and rode the Judith Basin trails, died after a long decline. A self-taught reader and philosopher, he preferred Tolstoy to wheat growing and found inspiration in prairie dawns and storms. He survived by his sister, Mrs. William E.
