Congress Adjourns at 4 P M Ending Sixty-Sixth Session

The sixtieth sixth Congress adjourns its second session today at 4 p m with adjournment sine die. A grave emergency may require a special session not to meet again until December 6.

Washington reports President did not sign several key measures including war legislation repeals and the Underwood pulp resolution. The most significant bills signed were naval option, army appropriation, deficiency, army reorganization, merchant marine, post office pay, immigration exclusions, veterans pensions, and related acts aiding returned enemy properties and preparations for a peace treaty.

Grass Range Woman's Club Holds June Meeting

The Grass Range Woman's Club met Tuesday June 1 at the Red Cross rooms. Members discussed current events and federation with the S F W C, selecting delegates for the Helena and Billings conventions. Five new members were elected, and a cemetery committee group was formed with the Commercial Club. The program chair Mrs Vrooman outlined next year's work.

New Town Council Holds Initial Meeting

The first meeting of the newly organized town council was held last Monday with Mayor Charters presiding. New aldermen C. A. Wilson, A. M. Peterson and A. G. Gillespie joined, Forbes Wiseman elected council president, and committees named for Finance, Property Streets and Alleys, and Auditing. Harry Braniff named Town Marshal and Pound Master. T. A. Cameron serves as Police Magistrate, Town Clerk and Treasurer. A committee was tasked to ensure Main street grading from sidewalk end to depot.

Twenty five Montana counties fund gopher eradication effort

George A Roosevelt of Bozeman reports twenty five counties in Montana have funds for government co operation in eradicating gophers. Roosevelts and Kepler, all Bozeman, spoke in Helena with county agent Manning. Ground squirrels declined where campaigns occurred. where no action was taken they thrived. Lewis and Clark County saw strong results last year with Helena National Forest cooperation and continued follow up is planned.

Mud Ball Storm Kills Cattle in Kansas Pasture

Report from Lmmth Center Kansas describes a "mud ball storm" where rain mixed with dust formed five pound mudballs that froze and struck ground as missiles killing several horses and cattle and damaging roofs. Observers note the event as a spring 1889 phenomenon described by old timers.

London May 28. William Hohenzollern, the former German emperor, is attempting tailoring. A Central News dispatch from Amsterdam reports he is cutting patterns for many new suits to stock his wardrobe and a trade paper says he excels at the job.

State Farm Loans Total 3.78 Million in Montana

Montana reports 3.784 million dollars in farm loans in force. Of these, 109 thousand dollars on 60 loans were closed in May, per Sidney Miller, register of the state land office. About 1,900 loans are currently active.

New York Population Rises by 854000 in Latest Census

New York City's population stands at 5,621,151, up 854,268 or 17.9 percent in the latest figures. Montana oil was used in dipping several thousand cattle at Melstone to protect herds from ticks, with oil hauled from the Mosby field as cattle gathered within a 60 mile radius.
