Guaranteeing the 1919 Wheat Price Proposal
Washington reports Chairman Lever of the house agriculture committee, after meeting with Secretary Houston, outlined a plan to insure the government wheat guarantee price for the 1919 crop. He would introduce legislation authorizing continued food administration grain operations or a new agency to handle buying selling and storing the 1919 crop with a 600 million dollar revolving fund. The government would buy the 1919 crop and sell at the world price, potentially incurring losses to maintain farmer faith, amid uncertain world stocks in Australia Argentina India and others affecting export demand.
