New Submarine Chasers to be Built by Ford in Detroit
Washington January 31 secretary Daniels announced after testimony on the naval appropriation bill that contracts for several scores of a new submarine chaser type will be placed with the Ford Motor company of Detroit. The craft are about 200 feet long and designed to combat submarines, described as halfway between a destroyer and a submarine chaser.

About 140000 of 687000 men in the first draft have not yet been summoned for training camps. They were not called because of shortages of clothing and equipment. The secretary expects calls to go out after February 15 but cannot say exactly when.
