Equalizing reservoir enhances irrigation efficiency on ranch
An equalizing reservoir was built above the head of the first distributing laterals to use spring flow and avoid waste during high water. Completed and tested this fall, the dam stands 30 feet high and the structure holds 150 acre feet of storage to maximize both storage and normal creek flow.
Saline Valley irrigation reservoirs described with capacity and features
An engineer designed five reservoir storage dams along Birch creek from Boot lake to Anchor lake to salvage water for irrigation. Each dam uses concrete core walls and steel outlet gates, with spillways to handle floods, totaling about 6,500 acre feet of storage. The system, costing about 12 000 dollars, can store full stream flows up to 2 000 inches for 24 hours and double the irrigating head during daytime.
