A competitive examination to fill a West Point vacancy, to be overseen by Senator Walsh, will be held January 9, 1918, in Anaconda, Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Dillon, Glasgow, Glendive, Great Falls, Hamilton, Havre, Helena, Kalispell, Lewistown, Livingston, Miles City, Missoula, and Roundup. Applicants aged 17 to 22 will be tested in algebra, geometry, grammar, geography, U.S. history, and arithmetic for six hours plus a lunch hour, with top scores named as principal and first and second alternates. The final admission exams occur on the third Tuesday in March near the applicant’s home or current school. The January 9 test begins at 9 a.m. and is open to all Montana youths. those wishing to compete should contact Senator Walsh, U.S. Senate, Washington, D.C., though entrants may also participate on exam day by applying to the Civil Service Board Secretary and indicating the vacancy is for Senator Walsh.
The government begins selling certificates of indebtedness as thrift stamps at 25 cents and war savings stamps priced from 4.12 to 4.23 dollars by month. Sixteen thrift stamps can be exchanged for a war savings stamp, paying the value difference. War savings stamps carry 4 percent interest, compounded quarterly, redeemable by January 1, 1928. These stamps or baby bonds are on sale at these forms.
