Potato Market Meeting in Lewistown August 6th

Mr I D Bassett head of Marketing will tour the state to help Potato Crowers and will arrive in Lewistown Monday evening August 6th at 8 for a meeting of farmers and businessmen interested in marketing potatoes. The goal is to find a ready market for surplus and discuss other market problems.

Reward Offered for Lost Strawberry Roan Yearling Calf

A $25 reward is offered for information leading to the recovery of a strawberry roan yearling calf that strayed or was stolen from the N-Uar ranch.

Shaft with twin chain sprockets found near ranch site

A shaft equipped with two chain drive sprockets on each end was located about ten days ago near the Ben Moulton ranch. The object resembles a shaft on a machine spreader and is described as a potentially useful mechanical piece. Local observers reported no identifying marks or associated equipment at the scene.

Hasty Marriage Not Bar to Draft Exemption

Washington July 31 Provost Marshal General Crowder ruled that marriages hastily made since the draft began do not automatically excuse a man from service. Dependency must be proven by fact not law, and only if the wife is truly dependent on the husband’s daily labor can exemption be argued. Authorities warned against marriages for evading conscription and noted that mobilization preparations were proceeding to schedule.
