Walsh Stays on the Job for Montana Interests
Senator Walsh, a staunch Montanan and national legislator, used a senate recess to secure aid for drought hit Northwest farmers. He persuaded President Wilson to allocate five million dollars from a special war fund to buy seed grain for fall planting, shielding Montana growers from ruin. From 1913 to 1918 he oversaw Montana reclamation appropriations totaling over 12.7 million dollars, and sponsored the Walsh Amendment to Good Roads, securing 10 million for highways through national forests, earning praise from the state press.
