Canton Eagles defeated Grand Saline 24-9 in a homecoming night upset. Canton built a 10-0 first quarter lead, led 10-7 at halftime, and pulled away to 24-9 by the fourth quarter. Grand Saline travels to Lone Oak to start district play.
The Pee-wee Indians routed the Ramns Wildcats 22 to 6 behind a stifling defense holding the Wildcats to 46 yards and 3 first downs, while Donovan Brown rushed 110 yards on 11 carries and Jared Carpenter caught a touchdown for the Indians.
The Grand Saline Indians J V football team lost 39 0 to Canton as three fumbles and four interceptions doomed the effort. Craig Morgan recovered a fumble in the first quarter but Canton pulled away with 19 unanswered points in two minutes. Adam Bartlett forced two fumbles and an interception while Clint Dickerson and Nikolai Villaneuva each had eight tackles. The Indians host the next game Thursday at 8 p m.
The Grand Saline Indians 8th grade team built an 18-0 lead and held off Canton Eagles 26-20. Daugherty starring on offense with three rushing TDs while Hamessley added a 43 yard TD run and 46 passing yards. Next home game vs Lone Oak at 6:30 Thursday.
The VZC Indians improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference with a road doubleheader at New Diana. They won 7-2 and 15-8 as Wade Mackey earned his fourth win, pitching four innings with two runs allowed on four hits and three strikeouts. Relievers Brandon Dodd and Garrett Bryant each worked one inning, Dodd surrendering one hit and no runs while Bryant struck out the side. Continued on page .
