The Sun publisher Alf Roberson invites readers to share thoughts and cooperation for a growing Grand Saline. A forthcoming Chamber banquet in Morton Salt mine aims to sell 400 tickets, with Eugene B. Germany of Lone Star Steel as principal speaker.
The Grand Saline Indians clinched regional honors in Class AA baseball by beating Linden 5 to 2 at Pittsburg. Rex Fite pitched shutout through six innings, allowing four hits. Grand Saline scored one in the first, two in the second, and two in the third, sealing the win.
Six Van Zandt County students received degrees at East Texas State College Sunday. The graduates were Mary Odessa Gautier of Grand Saline, James Clyde Barger of Edgewood, Joe Tom Farmer of Fdom, James E. Molland of Canton, James Lloyd Russell of Van, and Betty Jane Guarrison of Martins Mill among 249 degree recipients at the spring exercises.
Local architect Thomas A. Ashley announced a film titled Blueprint for Profit will be shown at the Fire Hall Monday night June 1 at 7 00 o clock. The public is invited to attend.
A 19 year old married woman was arrested in Grand Saline last Thursday after suspected shoplifting from several stores. Chief J. P. Heddins recovered stolen cosmetics lingerie and other items and placed her in jail in Canton before she pled guilty in Justice Willie Rodgers court and was fined then released to leave the county.
Cotton farmers are invited to a meeting Monday night June 1 at 8:00 p.m. in the P C A building at Wills Point. Todd W. Berry County Agricultural Agent announces Charlie Davis Area Entomologist will be the principal speaker.
Funeral services for Dr. Oscar M. Marchman former Grand Saline physician were held in Dallas after his death at Baylor Medical Center. He had a long East Texas and Dallas medical career and recently earned a Golden Deeds award. Fifty two Grand Saline High School seniors will receive diplomas Friday night at 8 in the Elementary School Auditorium with student talks and presentations by staff and board members. The graduating class includes Vilene Adams Barbara Alexander Garcia Bradberry Lois Burran Patsy Rutter and many others.
Officials at the district office of Shell Oil Company said they have no information indicating plans for further oil tests near Grand Saline. The No 1 Willie R Persons test on the southeast edge of Grand Saline was abandoned after tests from 4310 to 4324 feet and 3940 to 3960 feet yielded salt water.
The Church of the Nazarene announces its Vacation Bible School will start Monday morning June 1 and run for one or two weeks. Sessions run 8:30 to 11:00 daily for children ages 4 through 14, with Mrs. W. J. Campbell supervising.

A two car head-on crash one mile north of Canton on FM 859 at noon Tuesday left Christine Ellis 61 dead. George Sibley Ellis 63 of Wills Point in critical condition, and Mary Ellen Ellis 87 with a broken leg. Roy Allen Houston 41 of Dallas treated for head and facial injuries. Mary Alice Ellis admitted to clinic. Funeral plans set. Highway patrol investigated.
Morton Salters meet the Greenville Indians at the local ball park on Sunday afternoon. Gene Carroll, business manager, urged all residents to attend and support the team as no admission will be charged and seats will be plentiful.
Van Zandt County former residents now living in West Texas and elsewhere will gather at Mackenzie Park in Lubbock on June 14 for a reunion. Grady West, president, announced the event this week.
Silver Dollar Day, a Trade Development Committee project of the Grand Saline Chamber of Commerce, starts Saturday June 6. Twenty silver dollars are first prize with two $5 merchandise prizes each Saturday. A Main Street drawing will be announced by a sound truck. tickets distributed at participating merchants. First prize requires presence at drawing. unclaimed prizes carry over with $20 weekly increases. Merchandise prizes awarded each Saturday.
