The Main Street Baptist Church hosts a spring revival beginning Sunday May 8 for 10 days. Pastor Rev. Howard Conatser will preach, his father Rev. H P Conatser of Knoxville Tennessee directs the music. Services are at 9:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily with public invitation.
A Texas sports note recalls catcher Crook Teal one of the era's notable players linked to early 1920s Yankees tryouts. Other items report J H Morton recovering after a severe car wreck costing a leg, CAP Daniels seen out of the hospital, Baughman with a gravely ill Houston mother, Howard Anderson receiving a 22 jewel Hamilton watch, Sox Land at Clark Pontiac, a new dealer reply, Rev Howard Conatser's recovered stolen car, and American Legion officer listings.
Grand Saline Miners win their second straight Oil Belt League game with an easy 16-1 victory over Bascom. Pitcher J D LaParade earned the win with eight and one third innings, eight strikeouts, five hits allowed, and reliever Robert Hearn closing. Every Miner scored in the ninth as 15 hits supported the offense.
A MYF sub-district meeting is set at the Methodist Church next Monday May 9 starting at 7 30 p m Dr C E Peoples president of Lon Morris College will speak A half hour council meeting precedes the district gathering.
A fire caused by a defective oil stove destroyed the Oscar Robinson family home and furnishings in Dale Crest on Monday afternoon. Two mattresses, two pillows, and a few baby clothes were the only items saved from the blaze.

G. I. Moore, independent oil operator, plans to deepen the 1700 foot shallow oil test on the P. M. Abram tract in Sand Flat within two weeks. He abandoned the well two weeks ago at 1700 feet and says illness delayed the work.
John M. Monroe, father of Mrs. J C McMillan of Grand Saline, died Saturday April 30 in St. Pauls Hospital Dallas. Funeral services were held in Restland Memorial Chapel at 11 a m Monday.
Grand Saline high school baseball team plays Bonham in the final game of the season. The Indians seek two wins for second place in the district after last Friday’s 5-2 win over Van behind pitcher Jimmy Don Whatley and a 6-8 loss to Edgewood Tuesday with Garland charged with the defeat.
The Creagleville church will host the regular singing this Sunday starting at 2 p.m. All singers and gospel music lovers are invited to attend.
Vegetable dealers report strong demand for greens and turnips with good quality under manager E C Heddin. Cabbage is expected later this week but crop will be short with small heads. Tomato growth rapid after rain. harvest expected June 6-10 but volumes unlikely before June 13.
Dick Humphrey and Ed Johnson join Grand Sa line as new proprietors with a White's Auto Store grand opening sale in the brick building beside Grand Cleaners. Gene Dickerson and Ed Johnson launch the Sinclair Service Station at Highway 80 and Green Street in a new building with long hours and Sinclair products plus Goodyear tires and batteries. Cecil Alexander joins as station employee. Bill Bass buys Gulf Service Station at Highway 80 and Main Street with plans not yet set.
Grand Saline plans a state literary contest showing with Kenneth Kuykendall and Richard Hill traveling to Austin with Mrs. Floyd T. Matthews after winning the Kilgore regional. Betty Jane Fail, Gail Bennett, and Sharon Jordan also advance with their respective teachers to participate Saturday in shorthand and debate events.
Grass mowing and ground work began Monday at Creagleville Cemetery. Oliver Cofer announced the Cemetery Association recently purchased a power mower. Operator will be E. T. Hawkins. Cofer urged annual donations from cemetery supporters.
Oakland hosts Decoration Day and homecoming events this Saturday with an all day affair. Singing is planned for Saturday night and community members are invited to attend and renew old friendships.
