Father and Son Team Lead Main Street Revival

The Main Street Baptist Church hosts a spring revival beginning Sunday May 8 for 10 days. Pastor Rev. Howard Conatser will preach, his father Rev. H P Conatser of Knoxville Tennessee directs the music. Services are at 9:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily with public invitation.

Miners Rout Bascom 16-1 in Oil Belt League romp

Grand Saline Miners win their second straight Oil Belt League game with an easy 16-1 victory over Bascom. Pitcher J D LaParade earned the win with eight and one third innings, eight strikeouts, five hits allowed, and reliever Robert Hearn closing. Every Miner scored in the ninth as 15 hits supported the offense.

Robinson Home Burns In Dale Crest

A fire caused by a defective oil stove destroyed the Oscar Robinson family home and furnishings in Dale Crest on Monday afternoon. Two mattresses, two pillows, and a few baby clothes were the only items saved from the blaze.

Sand Flat Abram Test Slated for Deepening

G. I. Moore, independent oil operator, plans to deepen the 1700 foot shallow oil test on the P. M. Abram tract in Sand Flat within two weeks. He abandoned the well two weeks ago at 1700 feet and says illness delayed the work.

J M Monroe Dies In Dallas Hospital

John M. Monroe, father of Mrs. J C McMillan of Grand Saline, died Saturday April 30 in St. Pauls Hospital Dallas. Funeral services were held in Restland Memorial Chapel at 11 a m Monday.

Indians to close season with Bonham doubleheader

Grand Saline high school baseball team plays Bonham in the final game of the season. The Indians seek two wins for second place in the district after last Friday’s 5-2 win over Van behind pitcher Jimmy Don Whatley and a 6-8 loss to Edgewood Tuesday with Garland charged with the defeat.

Grand Saline plans a state literary contest showing with Kenneth Kuykendall and Richard Hill traveling to Austin with Mrs. Floyd T. Matthews after winning the Kilgore regional. Betty Jane Fail, Gail Bennett, and Sharon Jordan also advance with their respective teachers to participate Saturday in shorthand and debate events.

Cemetery Ground Work Starts in Creagleville

Grass mowing and ground work began Monday at Creagleville Cemetery. Oliver Cofer announced the Cemetery Association recently purchased a power mower. Operator will be E. T. Hawkins. Cofer urged annual donations from cemetery supporters.
