Mary White 82 dies after short illness in Grand Saline
Mrs. Mary White age 82 died Thursday of last week at Corby-Germany Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Lindale and lived in Grand Saline area most of her life and belonged to the Grand Saline Church of Christ. Funeral services were held Friday at the Church of Christ with Mr. Thomas Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Jamestown Cemetery. Surviving: one daughter Dora Gamblin of Grand Saline, a brother G C Null, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Paul Teal J W Melton Marshall White Hubert Gamblin and Lee Null.

Three Local Sailors Complete Naval Duty
Three Grand Saline men, James Presswood, Reaford Strickland, and Clayton Heflin, completed four years in the navy and plan to use the G I Bill for further education. Presswood, a boatswain’s mate, earned the Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Strickland, a former crash fire truck driver and yeoman, earned multiple medals and served on USS Swift and USS Toucan among others. Heflin, an electronics technician, earned the National Defense Medal, United Nations Medal, and Good Conduct Medal with service including North Africa, Iceland, and the Bermuda Inlands aboard patrol units.

The 1953 Oldsmobile 88 of Billy Prank Hill was demolished when he crashed into a tree at Roadside Park on East Highway 80. Hill and his passenger were not injured. The car struck a rock wall and a six inch tree after turning off the highway into the park.

Council Approves Lease for New City Dump
Grand Saline City Council accepted a lease from Kirby Gray for a new city dump located just north of the Emmitt Shivers farm at 195 a year. First use is reported to be Wednesday with fresh disposal methods and a dirt-covered ditch. The old dump site near Sand Flat highway will be fenced off and dumping there or on the highway is forbidden.

Mrs Ora Emma Null 60 wife of G C Null died early last Saturday in Corby Germany Hospital after a two day illness. She was born in Wisdom Temple and lived near Grand Saline all her life.
