Larry Smith reports the Pony League Dodgers lost 49 to 3 to Mineola last Tuesday June 12 with White and Marett pitching for Grand Saline. Mineola scored in the third inning with six runs on three hits and four errors. Grand Saline totaled 9 hits to Mineola’s 7. On June 15 Grand Saline beat Canton 14 to something as Tommy Anders pitched a 42 hit game for the Dodgers and Marett hit a home run. The Dodgers’ record stands at three wins and one loss.
East Texas native J J Lovvorn operates Manor baked goods distribution in Grand Saline area after serving in World War I. Grand Sa line City Council met Tuesday night with officials of Southwestern States Telephone Company to review an increase. The council again denied the request and set no further consideration at this time.
British American Air Rroaue Company Dallas reports tentative location for its second test on the Hainesville dome northeast of Mineola. Site would be in the northwest corner of James Brewer survey, about a mile southwest of No. 2 Bessie Wiesenhunt left survey past 10 850 toward the Patuxy. Operation shows good pay indications in the Woodbine.

Record crowd hears Joe Tunnel install officers and sweetheart at Grand Saline Lions Club meeting Tuesday night. Officers installed were John A. Nelson president Galloway Darby vice president Herman Russell second vice president C. A. Mayfield third vice president Vernon Moore secretary treasurer Charles Washmantail EP Friedline, Lion Jamer, Shirley Anderson, Herbert Clower, and RE Renfro and Herman Russell. Miss Mary Jane Smith named Sweetheart for the new year, daughter of Claude and Mrs Smith, senior student at Grand Saline High School, active in Tomahawk staff and Anal staff, will secretary and lead the band, and has won an award. She is active in the Methodist Church Youth department, former MYP president and church secretary. As Lion Sweetheart her first public appearance will be at the Watermelon Festival in Mineola as a duchess. Other guests included Mrs Tess Besird, Mrs Elma Green, Mrs W B Corby, Mrs Leona Smith, Mr and Mrs Loyd Lewis, and Mr and Mrs Joe Tunnell. The Ranch Motel served a menu for 51 guests: roast beef, snowflake potatoes, string beans, tossed salad, hot rolls, lime sherbert, with tea or entree.
Nora Sims Green a former Grand Saline resident died at 10 pm Monday in Fort Worth after an extended illness. Funeral services are at 2 pm Wednesday at Grand Saline First Baptist Church with Rev. B O Baker officiating. Burial in Woodside Cemetery. Bartley Funeral Home of Fort Worth in charge. Survived by two sisters Amanda Clifford Leona Smith of Grand Saline a brother John Sims five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Roy R. Sallins resigned as nightwatchman on Wednesday at noon with immediate effect. The City Council named W. H. Blackburn as replacement. Blackburn, a Grand Saline resident at 317 Naid St, works at Calhoun Mest Company. He is married to Nora Gipson of Opal's Cafe and attends the Baptist Church. he also belongs to the Masonic Lodge and promised to serve Grand Saline with cooperation from residents.
Beginning Wednesday night June 20 the Nazarene Church will hold a revival through July 1 with services at 9 00 a m and 8 p m daily. Evangelist Rev Hl B Damell of Vivian Louisiana will lead the meetings. Pastor Rev Floyd Akin invites the public to attend.
Neneth Worry reported the front screen to his store had been cut with a knife and Clyde Darby's front door had been whittled on with a pocket knife when the two men came down to open their stores Tuesday morning. Both men said it looked like the work of amateurs. Darby noted a prior break in with his back screen cut similarly to Berry's front door. Entrance was not gained.

Mrs Mollie L Holland, 88, died at her home here Friday afternoon June 15 after a long illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p m in the Grand Saline Funeral Home chapel with Rev Eldon Crump officiating. A native of Mississippi she had lived in Saline county for more than 50 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons Edgar Holland Grand Saline David Holland Beaumont and three daughters Mrs J H Campbell and Mrs Arther Hearn both of Grand Saline and Mrs John Dodson Madisonville Texas, 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons.
