Recall of Past: Torrential Rain Hits Grand Saline
Heavy crop damage and livestock loss followed what locals call the heaviest rain since 1890. In seven hours nine inches fell, washing out roads and isolating Grand Saline from train and bus service for days. Burglaries in five stores were solved after a Dallas police and Texas Ranger gun battle with suspects. Grand Saline voters approved a city manager plan and street bond measures. Five to One approved bonds and plans to widen Highway 80 were outlined. Friendship School graduates received diplomas with Edwin Gray as valedictorian and Reve Tipps as salutatorian. Ralph Krall wrote of an Alaskan bear hunt, and a couple, Miss Oudin Green and Mr. Odell Donoho, married in Weatherford. Principal James Nelson announced fourteen students would receive the G awards.
