Stock Show 174 Entries Highlight Open Show Winners

The Salt Festival Livestock Show drew 174 entries from FFA and 4 H showmen. Grand Saline's Kimbra Phillips topped the competitions with Showmanship, Champion of Champions, and Grand Champion Simmental female. Multiple Grand Champions and Reserve winners across Brahman, Angus, Charolais, Hereford, and Santa Gertrudis divisions were named, with 25 FFA chapters and 4 H clubs represented. Judges were John Ewing and Jimmy Cox from Waskom.

King Enlists In US Navy On 18th Birthday

Vernon Blaine King joined the US Navy Delayed Entry Program on May 13 his 18th birthday and selected the construction mechanic trade. He will report for basic training January 15, 1979 in Orlando Florida. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Patrick F King of Grand Saline and is a senior at Grand Saline High School.
