USDA Amends Food Stamp Purchase Requirement Rules
The USDA announces final amendments to the Food Stamp Program setting most households’ purchase at 30 percent of adjusted net income. A $1.00 deduction from the monthly coupon allotment is allowed, cents are dropped, and free stamps remain for low income two-person households and others under $30 monthly. New Schedule And Librarian Appointed For Grand Saline Library
Grand Saline Public Library will start regular hours next week with new librarian Mrs. Oletha Hargrove. Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Hargrove, a native of the city, trained this week in duties and book accessioning. The library, aided by volunteer help, has about 2,000 books and participates in a Mesquite Public Library loan. Funding comes from a $50 monthly city allowance plus donations including from the Athena Club. The library board chair Mrs. Gordon Adamson notes efforts to keep up with merit in best sellers and a wide range of topics.

Commissioners Accept Elevator Testing Proposal for Courthouse
In a brief meeting on Monday, VZ county commissioners approved a Dover Elevator Company proposal from Dallas for a courthouse elevator safety test priced at 435 dollars. Judge Richard Ray cited Texas safety standards and national elevator codes, with motion by Commissioner Bill Flowers and second by Herbert Sloan. The court then approved Gulf States United Telephone Company’s request to bury cable in Prect. 2 and Preet. 4 before adjourning to executive session to discuss real estate leasing.
