Ronny Fisher, 51, owner of Fisher's Auto Sales in Grand Saline, files for the one-year unexpired term on the Grand Saline ISD School Board. Incumbents Lovett and Hardy also filed as the filing period runs through March 17 for GSISD and City Council seats.
Editor JAN ADAMSON reports signs of division among Van Zandt County commissioners over proposed subcommittees. A law enforcement subcommittee was set with 18 appointees from Precincts 2 and 3, while Precinct 1 official O D Hazel declined, citing travel. County Judge Richard Lawrence defends the system as a learning tool while urging full participation.
A weekly story hour for children aged four to six runs Thursday at 3 p.m. at Grand Saline Public Library, sponsored by Friends of the Library, with attendance invited. Grand Saline ISD yearbooks are on sale through March 19 for 35 dollars, deposits required for remaining balance. Summer baseball sign-ups for Grand Saline Youth Foundation run through February 26 at the old gym, with multiple sign-up days in late February and March. Grand Saline ISD School Board met with architect Swain Mayo and financial planner Doug Whitt to discuss a bond issue for a new high school. Mayo suggested a fall election with move-in by August 2001 and cost estimates around 89 to 92 dollars per square foot. Trustees set a June 5 election date and approved a contract with WRA Inc. at 5.9 percent architectural fee.
Lavallo and Yarbrough join the Leukemia Society of America's Team in Training for the San Diego marathon. They aim to raise 5600 dollars, walking 26.2 miles in honor of seven year old Britanee Webb of Wills Point, while facing training challenges and personal fears.
