Tomorrow marks the final day for beef producers to vote on forming a Beef Board to fund research and information under USDA guidelines. About 40,320 Texas cattlemen are registered to vote with 90 of 346 from Van Zandt County already casting ballots. If approved, a 20 cent per 100 sale tax would fund the board for two years, potentially rising to 50 cents later, with 68 directors appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture from cattleman group nominations.

Four Council Posts Vacant in Grand Saline Election
Grand Saline residents will elect four councilmen in a city election set for Saturday April five. Of five seats only one is not up for election this cycle. Terms of Betty Adamson Hershel Walker and Herbert Clower expire with the remaining post for the unexpired Matthews term who resigned in January. Three councilmen will be elected for two year terms and one for a one year term. Tommy Davis remains the lone incumbent not up for reelection. As of Tuesday no candidates had filed and the deadline to file is March five.
