Grand Saline Chamber Opens Morning Coffee Event

Saline community news notes a morning coffee gathering hosted by the Grand Saline Chamber of Commerce from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the chamber office pavilion with an open invitation to the public. A weekly story hour at Grand Saline Public Library starts at 3 p.m. for pre kindergarten through first grade children, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The Van Zandt County Tax Sub station on Frank Street remains open weekdays 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m., with Wallace and Murray Insurance relocated. contact 962-3733.

Scout food bags pickup set for Saturday in Grand Saline

The annual Scouting for Food drive by Grand Saline Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops will have collection bags picked up Saturday. Donations of canned goods are requested, no glass jars. For details contact Barbra Pickens at 962-3289.

Neighborhood dispute tops Grand Saline City Council meeting

The Grand Saline City Council heard residents over a neighbor complaint about KAW Meat owners Mike and Linda Koonce. Police and officials observed the Waldrip Street site and found no noise issue. The council also declared February 14 as Hospitalized Veterans Week and held a public hearing on Alan Ladd's request to rezone farm property to multi family.

Filing Opens for Grand Saline City and School Board Seats

Filing begins Monday for Grand Saline ISD School Board seats held by Doug Lovett and another member. City Council seats held by Paula Teague and Jerry Bolin plus the mayor’s seat held by Ray Rucker are up for election. First filing day for the city is February 16 due to Presidents Day closure. Eligibility requires US citizenship and age 18 by the term start.

County Commissioners Propose Six Committees for Service
