Jackson Retires After 37 Years in Perry District

Oran Jackson, superintendent of Perry's Northeast Texas district, retired after 37 years. A dinner in Lufkin on Wednesday January 28 honored him with a plaque from President W. L. Atwell praising loyalty, selflessness, and leadership. Atwell noted Jackson's role in employing many young men.

Van Zandt County Hits 96 Percent of U S Savings Bond Goal

Van Zandt County reports 96 percent of its 1969 savings bond goal with total sales of 106,852 dollars and December sales reaching 16,902 dollars. County chair C L Stanford notes progress toward an 820,000 dollar target as Texas counties surpass state goals. Nationwide 1969 bond sales reach 4.74 billion dollars, with 97 percent of goal achieved and Freedom Shares totaling 548 million dollars, up from 277 million the prior year.
