Time for a new Texas constitution debated by lawmakers
Texas lawmakers Sen Bill Ratliff and Rep Rob Jonell propose House Joint Resolution 1 to rewrite the 122 year old constitution creating a cabinet form of government and broad governor control including land agriculture railroad commissioners and appointment of judges subject to voter approval. The plan would require a two thirds legislative vote and voter ratification. Texas Republicans and Democrats differ on the idea. Comptroller John Sharp warns of potential fiscal changes and a possible four billion dollar surplus by August 31.

Letters to the editor praise James and the Sincerely Elvis Band for a wonderful concert with Christmas songs amid flashing antlers, but condemn the small turnout at the Apryl Marshall benefit. Attendance appeared very low, though venues Aunt Pat's Cafe Grand Saline High School and Texas Country Antiques aided ticket sales.
