Personal income expanded from 35.591 million to 67.274 million, powered by consumer confidence and rising wages while savings remained substantial. The Journalism Class traveled to Dallas and Denton to attend the Texas High School Press Association Convention sponsored by Texas Woman's University. Debra Whitaker and Bren da Davidson earned all tournament honors in Chapel Hill. Grand Saline defeated Chapel Hill 58-38 with Whitaker scoring 30 points. Chapel Hill beat Grand Saline 55-32 as Rita Wolford and Whitaker each had 16. Grand Saline lost 67-49 to Gilmer for third. Whitaker led with 26. Junior varsity 35-28 and varsity 39-34 wins followed at Grand Saline host. Cur tis 15 JV, Wolford 17 varsity.

JVS junior varsity beat Mineola Yellow Jackets 71 to 9 on December 11 with Ronnie Monk 24 points Mike Allen 18 and John Thomas 16 leading scorers. Varsity lost 59 52 with Dennis Jennings 20 and Dennis Newburn 12 top scorers.

Chamblee Elected to ASC Committee by Delegates
G. D. Chamblee a Van Zandt rancher and farmer was elected to the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee by delegates at the ASC county convention held December 12 in Canton. Raymond Valentine and Jack Mayne were chosen as first and second alternates to the committee. The new committee takes office January 1 and serves with existing officers G. C. Lambdin chair, J. A. Parker vice chair, and G. C. Chamblee regular member.
